Maldives dominated the World Travel Awards again this year by sweeping away most of the major awards in the Indian Ocean category.
During the ceremony held at the Paradise Island Resort & Spa on Sunday evening, attended by the industry’s elite including CEO’s and SVPs of leading travel companies, government ministers and tourist board chiefs, Maldives took away 22 of the 33 awards.

The Maldives' continuing rise to tourism stardom was rewarded as it took home top honors for Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Destination, Leading Cruise Destination while Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) was hailed as the region’s Leading Airport.

Other Award winners from across the region saw Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach Resort going to LUX Maldives, Leading New Hotel going to Coco Prive Kuda Hithi Island, Leading Luxury Water Villa and Leading Conference Hotel going to Paradise Island Resort, Leading Family Resort to Lily Beach resort, Leading Boutique Hotel to Island Hideaway Spa Resort, Leading Green Resort to Sun Island, Indian Ocean's Leading Hotel to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Indian Ocean's Leading Hotel Suite to Ocean Haven at W Retreat & Spa, Indian Ocean's Leading Leisure Hotel to Hulhule Island Hotel.

Meanwhile, Gili Lankanfushi took away the award for Indian Ocean's Leading Luxury Resort, Indian Ocean's Leading Luxury Tour Operator went to Lets Go Maldives, Indian Ocean's Leading Resort    to Baros Maldives, Indian Ocean's Leading Spa Resort to Gili Lankanfushi, Indian Ocean's Leading Tourist Board to Maldives Tourism Promotion Board, Indian Ocean's Leading Travel Agency to Atoll Paradise, Indian Ocean's Leading Villa Resort & Spa to Ayada Maldives and Indian Ocean's Most Romantic Resort to Baros Maldives.

The ceremony also recognized Maldives’ leading businessmen in the industry by awarding Mohamed Umar Manik, Hussain Afeef and Gasim Ibrahim with the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award.

Maldives’ Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb received the Indian Ocean’s Travel and Tourism Personality Award.
